The Tensor-Vector-Scalar theory and its cosmology

چکیده
Over the last few decades, astronomers and cosmologists have accumulated vast amounts of data clearly demonstrating that our current theories of fundamental particles and of gravity are inadequate to explain the observed discrepancy between the dynamics and the distribution of the visible matter in the Universe. The Modified Newtonian Dynamics (MOND) proposal aims at solving the problem by postulating that Newton’s second law of motion is modified for accelerations smaller than ∼ 10−10m/s2. This simple amendment, has had tremendous success in explaining galactic rotation curves. However, being nonrelativistic, it cannot make firm predictions for cosmology. A relativistic theory called Tensor-Vector-Scalar (TeVeS) has been proposed by Bekenstein building on earlier work of Sanders which has a MOND limit for non-relativistic systems. In this article I give a short introduction to TeVeS theory and focus on its predictions for cosmology as well as some non-cosmological studies.

Some Impacts of Lorentz Violation on Cosmology
The impact of Lorentz violation on the dynamics of a scalar field is investigated. In particular, we study the dynamics of a scalar field in the scalar-vector-tensor theory where the vector field is constrained to be unity and time like. By taking a generic form of the scalar field action, a generalized dynamical equation for the scalar-vector-tensor theory of gravity is obtained to describe th...
متن کاملTensor-vector-scalar-modified gravity: from small scale to cosmology.
The impressive success of the standard cosmological model has suggested to many that its ingredients are all that one needs to explain galaxies and their systems. I summarize a number of known problems with this programme. They might signal the failure of standard gravity theory on galaxy scales. The requisite hints as to the alternative gravity theory may lie with the modified Newtonian dynami...
متن کاملStrange quark matter attached to string cloud in general scalar tensor theory of gravitation
Bianchi type-VI0 space time with strange quark matter attached to string cloud in Nordtvedt [1] general scalar tensor theory of gravitation with the help of a special case proposed by Schwinger [2] is obtained. The field equations have been solved by using the anisotropy feature of the universe in the Bianchi type-VI0 space time. Some important features of the model, thus obtained, have been di...
متن کاملA Modified Gravity and Its Consequences for the Solar System, Astrophysics and Cosmology∗
A relativistic modified gravity (MOG) called Scalar-Tensor-Vector Gravity (STVG) desribes a self-consistent, stable gravity theory that contains Einstein’s general relativity in a well-defined limit. The theory has an extra degree of freedom, a vector field called a “phion” field whose curl is a skew symmetric field that couples to matter (“fifth force”). The spacetime geometry is described by ...
متن کاملTeleparallel gravity and its modifications
The teleparallel equivalent of general relativity is an intriguing alternative formulation of general relativity. In this thesis, we examine theories of teleparallel gravity in detail, and explore their relation to a whole spectrum of alternative gravitational models, discussing their position within the hierarchy of Metric Affine Gravity models. Consideration of alternative gravity models is m...
